Teton River Distribution Project

The Teton River Distribution Project was created by 9th and 12th Judicial Districts Court for the 2017 irrigation season. Water users throughout the basin petitioned for the appointment of water commissioners in 2016. In its inaugural irrigation season, the project proved to be a success based on comments received from water users throughout the basin. Public meetings will be held in the October and November 2017 to address any and all issues that arise during the 2017 administrative effort.

This website is set up in a blog format. Chief Water Commissioner Peter Fritsch is authorized to post photos and comments on stream conditions, priority date cutoffs, etc. Water users may post questions to the blog that will be answered as quickly as possible. This website is an effort to create transparency and effective decision making on behalf of the Teton River Distribution Project.

DNRC Hydrological Report Presentation in Choteau 6/10 @ 730pm

Todd Blythe, DNRC Hydrologist, Aaron Fiaschetti's replacement, will be in Choteau Thursday night at 730 pm to present his 2021 hydrological report for the Teton River drainage.

Mr. Blythe is picking up where Aaron left off, supporting our water management efforts as best he can with data gleaned from the numerous flow gauges throughout the basin.

Presentation will be in the back room of John Henry's restaurant.

DNRC March 2021 Teton River Water Supply Outlook

Last year the DNRC installed a new stream gauge in Spring Creek that is accessible to all in the city park.  It is located approximately 40yds NE from the event building and is situated on the north bank.

The gauge is what I call a data pull gauge.  DNRC must physically come to Choteau and plug into the gauge to get the flow readings before uploading it to the internet.

There is a staff gauge on it though that anyone can look at anytime.  The link below is to a somewhat limited flow chart for the staff gauge as of 3/12/21.  DNRC will continue to expand the flow chart this year. But its something folks can check at their convenience and see where Spring Creek flows are.

 January 18, 2021 Snowpack Report

Unfortunately, the NRCS is not currently producing monthly statewide hydrologic outlooks.  I will continue checking to see if they resume, but for now, the snowpack map is the only data I can access.
